Revival Container Bar, 92-96 Victoria Street
Note: Revival has become Little Neighbourhood and has had a facelift.
Revival Container Bar has a reuse and recycle vibe – a seat and back end from a car have been turned into a couch, chests and suitcases have been opened out and upholstered to make sofas, and supermarket trolleys have been refashioned into sturdy chairs.
My favourite reuse is in the outdoor area – old fire places have been joined to make a unique table. (See more work by Ironic Art)
Ancient egg beaters provide the base of a coffee table, and there is a use for old TV’s – turn them into tables too.
Music memorabilia is on the walls including a signed picture drawn by John Lennon in 1952. If you like to play it retro there’s a working Pac Man machine taking 50 cent pieces.
The Town Ball, corner Manchester & Southwark Streets
After spending many years promoting New Zealand around the world an inflatable Giant Rugby Ball blew up on Manchester Street in September 2012 and became The Town Ball Bar & Grill. The Town Ball was deflated in June 2014, who knows, it may blow up again in a town near you.
