There were a few unusual vehicles in the Grand Parade at Beach Hop this year including a yellow electric 1957 Ford Fairlane. If you’re in New Zealand you’ve probably seen Ron and Malcolm making a quiet getaway in the big yellow Ford in the Mercury Energy TV ad (if not follow the link).
We were talking about what makes Beach Hop one of the best car events we’ve been to and for us one of the many reasons is the sound, it’s not a quiet car event as anyone who stands on Port Road in Whangamata will tell you.
Will electric vehicles be part of Beach Hop’s future? A short Google search found a few electric hot rods so ‘the times they are a changin’. However if it’s the throaty rumble of a classic car or the shiny silverware sticking out the bonnet of a hot rod that gets your motor running Beach Hop will still be the place to go for many years yet. (I hope)

Hi Peter
You will be in heaven, an amazing collection of vehicles turn out for Beach Hop every year and it’s also a very well run event, I know you will love it! It’s not too long away now so best wishes for a memorable trip.
PS. I’m not sure when you arrive in NZ, but the Meremere Dragway is 62 km from Hamilton and they have a Nationals meet on 10th March, rain date 16th & 17th March – http://www.meremeredragway.co.nz/events/278-2019-IHRA-NZ-NATIONALS—ELIMINATIONS-RACE-DAY.html
